Access Bank has donated 10 computers worth over 6m/-to Mugabe Secondary School in Dar es Salaam, as part of its strategy to sensitise application of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in schools.
Speaking during the handing over
ceremony, the bank’s Marketing Officer, Mr Sijaona Simon said that his
bank after a research, had discovered most ward secondary schools have
no computers.
He noted that such discovery compelled
Access Bank to introduce sustainable strategy of distributing computers
to schools as sensitisation of use of computers in schools. According to
Mr Simon, the bank has already donated computers to secondary schools
of King’ong’o (Kimara), Tuangoma (Kigamboni), Mugabe and will soon
donate the same to Tungi secondary school in Kigamboni.
He noted that Access Bank was
established to support small entrepreneurs who had no access to
financial institutions due to small capital. “These computers will ease
teachers’ works as we’ve found out that in some schools even headmasters
have no computers at all. We’ve decided in this era of ICT to give back
our profits to our society, we want a student to graduate Form IV when
she/he is computer literate,” he insisted.
The School’s Headmistress Ng’wigulu said
that the computers would enable the school to establish computer
classes. She said that the donation has come at the right time as it
would help the students to learn ICT in this era of science and
technology.
“The board of the school thanks Access
Bank for this assistance and we ask the bank not to get tired of helping
us as we face a lot of challenges, including shortage of classrooms and
lack of fence/wall as we’ve been surrounded by bars in every corner,”
Ms Ng’wigulu pleaded.
The headmistress added that the school
had no even a single house for teachers and therefore it is not easy for
the teachers to make close supervision of their students.
